Upload matters
Video calls, file uploads and cloud backup all send data upstream. A plan with high download but limited upload can feel constrained when several household members are transmitting at once.
Latency and loss
Interactive calls are sensitive to delay variation and packet loss. A stable 100 Mbps connection can feel better for conferencing than an unstable gigabit connection.
Use Ethernet where practical
A fixed work computer can often benefit from wired Ethernet, especially when the Wi‑Fi environment is crowded or the workspace is far from the access point.
Think about resilience
If connectivity is critical, consider what happens during an ISP or power outage. The appropriate backup may be cellular tethering, another access service or simply a known alternative workspace, depending on needs.
